GSWS/FQT is sad to announce the passing of long time colleague and friend, Professor Robin Leidner. Professor Leidner was an active member of the GSWS/FQT community, teaching courses on gender, sociology, and work, serving on the board, and advising students.
She will be deeply missed.

The Beinecke Scholarship awards $34,000 toward graduate study to juniors eligible for need-based financial aid who are planning to pursue a research-focused master’s or doctoral degree in the social sciences, humanities, or the arts, with a strong preference for Pell Grant recipients.

Read the Penn Today article with GSWS and History of Art Professor of Practice Jonathan D. Katz on the newly created McDonough Fellowships for queer art history. The fellowships are supported by a 10-year, $3 million donation from an anonymous donor. The work of the Penn & Slavery group, advised by Professor Kathy Brown, was featured in The Inquirer as part of their series examining the roots of systemic racism, A More Perfect Union.

A new book by anthropologist Deborah A. Thomas and political scientist Nancy J. Hirschmann compiles a series of essays examining citizenship from an interdisciplinary lens. Thomas and Hirschman spoke with Penn Today about these ideas and their 2022 book, “Citizenship on the Edge: Sex/Gender/Race.”

Dani Smith, J. Peter Skirkanich Professor at the University of Pennsylvania and Executive Board member recently published a book co-authored with their sibling, Perry Zurn, of American University, titled Curious Minds: The Power of Connnection. An excerpt of the book is featured in Penn Today. 

Second-year student and GSWS major Antoilyn Nguyen spent their summer as a researcher analyzing labor and delivery charts as part of a long-term cohort study to standardize labor induction for better and more equitable results. Their work was featured in Penn Today.
