GSWS Executive Board Member Charlotte Jacobs presents work at Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls conference

In July, Charlotte Jacobs, GSE Assistant Adjunct Professor and GSWS Executive Board Member, traveled to Johannesburg to participate in a conference organized by the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (OWLAG). The gathering, titled “What Happened to You: Understanding the Impact of Trauma on Learning, Teaching and Psychological Functioning,” centered on trauma-informed practice (TIP), which examines how adversity, background, and lived experiences shape a student's development and learning.

WXPN Counts Down the Greatest Songs by Women

Local radio station WXPN announces a listener supported contest aimed at showcasing the "885 Greatest Songs by Women." From the press release: "Some of our previous countdowns, while abundant in talent, sometimes miss the mark when showcasing the female voices shaping music. This year’s countdown aims to bring some balance and female energy to our end-of-year celebration."

GSWS Major's Research on Motherhood Featured in Penn Today

Claudia Bellacosa, a junior major in GSWS with a double-major in Economics, was featured in Penn Today regarding her research on "intensive motherhood." Bellacosa completed the research as part of a team led by Sociology Professor Paula Fomby. Read more about their research findings in Penn Today.

Call for Presenters for the GSWS Graduate Colloquium Series

The call for presenters is now open for the GSWS Graduate Colloquium Series.
This is an opportunity for all graduate students working in any area related to women, gender, queer, and sexuality studies to join a cohort of their peers in giving and receiving feedback on work. You can workshop parts of chapters, articles, essays, or practice conference papers and presentations.

Recent Graduate Serena Martinez Wins Phi Beta Kappa Thesis Award

GSWS/FQT is pleased to announce that recent graduate, Serena Baldick Martinez's honors thesis "Reclaimed Nonbinary Harry Potter Fanfiction: Imagining Identity by Reading and Writing a Magical World" was recently awarded the Phi Beta Kappa Thesis Prize.
