Pilar Gonalons-Pons Named Alber-Klingelhofer Presidential Assistant Professor
GSWS Affiliated Faculty member Pilar Gonalons-Pons has been named Alber-Klingelhofer Presidential Assistant Professor. Gonalons-Pons studies how gender, work, families, and public policies structure economic inequalities, with a particular focus on how inequalities change over time and over the life course. She received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before coming to Penn in 2017, Gonalons-Pons was a post-doctoral fellow at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, Germany and a research affiliate at the Cornell University Population Center.

GSWS alum chosen as Samvid Scholar
Debbie Rabinovich, who graduated from the College with a double major in GSWS and Urban Studies in 2019, has been chosen for the inaugural class of 20 Samvid Scholars. They were selected from more than 700 applicants for their academic and leadership achievements and demonstrated drive to make positive changes in society. Read more on the CURF website.
Job Posting: Assistant Professor in the History of Sexuality
The School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track position in the history of sexuality at the assistant professor rank. The successful candidate will be appointed in the Department of History and will be centrally involved in the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies (GSWS) Program. They will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in History and the GSWS Program, with the normal course load being two courses per semester.
A new name and a new director for the Alice Paul Center
As of July 2021, what was formerly known as the Alice Paul Center has a new name and a new director. The Center for Research in Feminist, Queer, and Transgender Studies (known by the initials FQT) is now headed by Melissa Sanchez, the Donald T. Regan Professor of English and Comparative Literature. The name change came about after long discussion, “because we wanted to signal our commitment to these intellectual and political movements,” Sanchez says.
Casting Call for Opus Siniestrus
Penn Students, Staff, Faculty and Alums: Come be surreal with us!
We are putting on a show, a workshop production of the painter’s Leonora Carrington’s Opus Siniestros. It involves a worldwide plague that kills only women. The last woman on earth battles the patriarchy in the forms of a Doctor, the Pope, 12 cannibals, 3 astronauts, Superman and Hitler. A misgendered ostrich makes a star turn.
The show will be performed on the second floor terrace of the Penn ICA Galleries October 29th and 30th at 7 pm.

Penn Law Professor and FQT/GSWS Board member Serena Mayeri spoke with Penn Today about the Texas abortion ban which prohibts all abortions after six weeks in the state. Mayeri says: "It is the most vulnerable—people of limited means, communities of color, rural families—who will bear the brunt of these restrictions, as they always do."
