Award winning GSWS honors thesis research featured in 34th Street
Simran Chand's ('21) award winning honors thesis research was recently featured in 34th Street Magazine. The piece, titled The Birds and The Bees: For Brown People, is a first person account of Chand's honors thesis project, which received the Carroll-Smith Rosenberg Senior Thesis Award in Women's Studies as well as the Holden Furber Prize in South Asian studies.
GSWS Associate Director Gwendolyn Beetham Receives 2022 Models of Excellence Award
Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies Associate Director Gwendolyn Beetham has been selected to receive a Models of Excellence Award. The Models of Excellence Award program celebrates the extraordinary achievements of full- and part-time staff across the University's schools and centers. This award recognies staff member accomplishments that reflect initiative, leadership, increased efficiency, and a deep commitment to service.
Former Visiting Scholar Shenila Khoja-Moolji Tenured
The very first Program & Center Visiting Scholar Shenila Khoja-Moolji was promoted to Associate Professor at Bowdoin. While at Penn Dr. Khoja-Mooljil was a DCC post-doc for the "Citizenship on the Edge" programming theme. She also ran a conference on girls' education in Islamic nations.

The Caregiving Crisis at Penn
Between August 16, 2021 and October 08, 2021, GSWS/FQT gathered data from Penn faculty, staff, post docs, and graduate students through its Caregiving on Campus Survey. The survey sought to measure the level of support employees with caregiving responsibilities had received from the University as of fall 2021, as well as feelings about return to campus policies. The survey also attempted to assess the needs of caregivers at the institutional and departmental level.

This month, Jessa Lingel, Rosemary Clark-Parsons, and Kim Bronciforte published the article "More than handmaids: Nursing, labor activism and feminism," which includes work that was supported by the Trustees' Council of Penn Women. Abstract:
FQT/GSWS Affiliate Jose Bauermeister helps launch Penn Nursing initiative on LGBTQ health
The Eidos LGBT+ Health Initiative, led by Nursing School professor and FQT/GSWS affiliated faculty member José Bauermeister, aims to create a welcoming hub for students and faculty to engage in community-based research and teach students to produce innovative solutions to problems affecting the LGBTQ community. FQT/GSWS Board Member Lisa Miracchi awarded NEH Grant
FQT/GSWS congratulates Lisa Miracchi, associate professor of philosophy in the School of Arts and Sciences and FQT/GSWS Executive Board member. Miracchi has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) for her project, New Foundations for the Study of Biological and Artificial Intelligence. Read more in The Almanac.
