GSWS Affiliate Carol Tracy Receives Friars Teaching Award
Carol Tracy was unanimously chosen as the recipient of the 2021 Faculty Award given annually by the Friars Senior Society, Penn’s oldest and most active senior honor society. The Executive Director of the Women's Law Project, Tracy teaches a regular course on sexual and reproductive law and policy for the GSWS Program.
New article on marriage & masculinity from Pilar Gonalons-Pons
In the latest issue of American Sociological Review, Pilar Gonalon-Pons published "Marriage and Masculinity: Male-Breadwinner Culture, Unemployment, and Separation Risk in 29 Countries," which includes analysis of data for married and cohabiting heterosexual couples in 29 countries from 2004 to 2014, to provide robust evidence that male-breadwinner norms are a key driver of the association between men’s unemployment and the risk of separation. A note on the devastating impacts of the COVID pandemic in India from Ania Loomba
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
You would, by now, have read or seen the devastating impacts of the COVID pandemic in India this past month. This wave is only beginning. By August of this year, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation forecasts over one million people will die of COVID in India alone. This moment calls for a response that exceeds this moment.
GSWS/APC Board Member, Assistant Professor Pilar Gonalons-Pons quoted in New York Times
Assistant Professor of Sociology, Pilar Gonalons-Pons was quoted in the New York Times in a story titled "What Do Women Want? For Men to Get Covid Vaccines." Gonalons-Pons noted that gender disparities in care giving may be partly to blame for the gender gap in who has received the vaccine, since women take on a disproportionate amount of care work.
