Decena will read from and discuss the memoiristic parts of his latest publication, Circuits of the Sacred: Faggotology in the Black Latinx Caribbean, a visionary study of transnational Black Caribbean immigrant queer life and spirit, which thinks of Blackness through the metaphor of the “circuit.” In Circuts of the Sacred Decena turns to memoir, ethonography, analysis, and fiction to reckon with his own indivudual exerience of racially-marked upward mobility, gay male coming of age, and family building.  A reception will follow the conversation. Register here to attend in person.

CARLOS ULISES DECENA is an interdisciplinary scholar and writer. A member of the Rutgers University faculty since 2005, Decena teaches in the Department of Latino and Caribbean Studies and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. He published his first book, Tacit Subjects: Belonging and Same-Sex Desire among Dominican Immigrant Men in 2011. Circuits of the Sacred: Faggotology in the Black Latinx Caribbean will be published in Spring 2023 by Duke University Press.
