GSWS Majors
Aleiyah Aguero is a first-generation college student graduating with majors in History and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies, and a minor in English. At Penn, she served as Co-Chair of the History Undergraduate Advisory Board, was a Penn History Department Undergraduate Research Fellow, and founded the Penn chapter of Letters Against Depression. She is the recipient of the 2025 GSWS Undergraduate Student Research Expense Award and a member of the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honors Society. A Philadelphia native, Aleiyah plans to attend law school and pursue advocacy work in her community and beyond.
Nicole V. Hoang (any/all) is a senior at the University of Pennsylvania studying Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies with a self-designed Concentration in Civil Rights. Her honors thesis researches revolutionary visual culture in the Vietnam War. Nicole’s research has been supported through the Asian American Studies Fellowship, Mellon Mays Foundation, and Point Foundation. Outside of Nicole’s research, Nicole pursued public policy at the Office of Senator Feinstein (D-CA), the U.S. Department for International Development, and the Philadelphia Office of Immigrant Affairs. Nicole enjoys Shotokan Karate, bel canto singing, and weightlifting. This summer, Nicole will be interning at the Philadelphia Law Department.
Sophie Levin doubled majored in Neuroscience and Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. In GSWS, she pursued a concentration in Health and Disability, and completed part of her major in London at King's College. Outside of class, Sophie was a Crew-Chief EMT on MERT, PAVE educator, Organic Chemistry TA, and a member of Carriage Senior Society. After graduation, Sophie will be attending medical school at Rush University, and will continue to use what she learned in her GSWS major to become a physician-advocate.
Xiyuan “Dora” Lin (she/her/hers) is a first-generation college student studying Political Science and Gender, Sexuality, & Women's Studies. She is from Hartford, CT, and Fuzhou, China. At Penn, she was a Work Study Administrative Assistant for the GSWS department, co-chair of the Admissions Dean's Advisory Board, a Head Advising Fellow for Matriculate, External Vice President of Wharton FGLI, and President of University Honor Council. As she attends law school this fall, she looks forward to using her GSWS degree to uplift women's voices and would like to thank Dr. Beetham and Riley Fortier for their guidance throughout her time at Penn!
Diamy Wang majored in Political Science and Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies — concentrating in LGBTQ+ Studies — as well as a minor in Asian American Studies. During her time at Penn, Diamy was the executive editor at The Daily Pennsylvanian, a program assistant at the LGBT Center, a facilitator for the Penn GenEq pre-orientation program, and the student board representative of Philadelphia's Asian American Journalists Association chapter. She is the recipient of the Penn Leadership Q Student Leadership Award. After graduation, Diamy will completing a reporting summer internship at The Charlotte Observer before heading to the Hearst Connecticut Media Group as a Hearst Reporting Fellow.
