First Annual GSWS Graduate Student Research Grants

The Alice Paul Center is happy to announce the First Annual GSWS Graduate Student Research Grants. These competitive grants of $500 each are designed to support research-related expenses, including (but not limited to) conference registration and travel, research travel, transcription and other materials. The grants cover expenses incurred during the Spring and Summer 2016 terms.

We anticipate awarding at least five $500 grants this year. The amount and number of grants will change each year, based on the available budget. Funding permitting, we will consider making awards larger than $500, but only for expenses for which receipts can be submitted by May 13, 2016. Receipts are not required for the $500 grants*, but a report outlining how the funds were used must be submitted by September 1, 2016. All funds will be disbursed by June 30, 2016. APC Graduate Student Research Grants are only available to students in the GSWS certificate program.

Funds may be requested for:

  • Travel for research (field research, archives)
  • Registration, travel and other expenses incurred to attend an academic/professional conference
  • Other research related expenses, such as transcription, photocopying, archive-related expenses, etc.

Applicants should send an application packet saved in a single PDF document to esacove@sas.upenn.edu with “APC Grad Research Grant Application” in the subject line. The application packet includes:

  • a 250-word proposal, listing your name and PhD-granting department
  • a budget for how the funds will be spent, including other sources of research funding

Applications are due April 15

* Awards are subject to 1099 reporting
