David Amponsah is an assistant professor in the Religious Studies Department at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He received his PhD from Harvard University in 2015. He is a historian who researches the intersection of religion and society in Africa and its diaspora, with special attention to colonialism, popular culture, and contemporary politics. His articles have appeared in and are forthcoming from the Journal of Africana Religions and the International Journal of African Historical Studies. In addition to being on the editorial board of the Journal of Africana Religions, he is co-chair of the African Religions Group of the American Academy of Religion.
